What was the first word out of the mouth of young Noah Herman,
a 9-month-old whose father, Nate Herman, runs Herman Brothers
Pond Management? "Fishy," Noah said Monday, drawing
a smile from his father and a less excited reaction from
mother, Brook. "Fishy can't be his first word. Can
it?" she asked. Sure it can, particularly since dad
stocked 1.1 million fish so far this spring. . . . Speaking of
the Hermans, they showed off a lake near Norris they stocked
with perch, walleye, smallmouth bass and hybrid striped bass
(along with more typical central Illinois pond fare). Catching
perch and walleye without driving north is a real bonus in my
book. Look for Herman Brothers to open a store in about three
weeks off Allen Road across from the new Menard's. They'll be
selling pond gear off their Web site (hbpondmanagement.com)
